Economy of Environment

The subject deals with question of economics of the environment and politics of the environment. Students familiarise themselves with fundamentals of politics of the environment theory and further are introduced to legislative requirements of protection of the environment within the firm, assessment of the effectiveness of the firm’s ecological measures and their financing. On basis of gained knowledge and skills, the students should understand the mutual connection of the economics of environment from the practical viewpoint.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will obtain knowledge from the economics of environment with orientation at environmental politics of a firm. On basis of obtained knowledge and skills the students should be able to apply and solve in the semester work selected environmental areas within the firm.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have general economic knowledge.

Team project - 45 points.
Written test - 55 points.

Basic terms, macroeconomic and microeconomic coherences of the environment.
Sustainable development. Sustainable development indicators.
Evaluation of natural goods.
Economic tools for the environment protection.
Ecological politics of the environment.
Ecological aspects of the firm’s strategy.
Evaluation of ecological consequences of investments, investments into the environment.


Assignment of case studies and consultations.
Consultations.
Presentation of case studies. Discussion.

Aims

Purpose of the subject is to acquaint students with basic theoretical knowledge from the economics of environment and politics of environment following the firm’s obligations of the environment protection, and in what way to improve the firm’s relation to the environment.
