Economy and oecology of power engineering

The course builds on subjects dealing with general proposals of the power device according to the technical aspects. Graduates of this course should be able to design an optimum technical and economical solution of the power devices.
The course also introduces the basics of ecology, with a technical device to limit the release of pollutants from power plants and heating plants and pollution emission limits, the methods of waste disposal and the relevant laws and regulations.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students get an overview of basic economic relationships and connections, and examining issues of economic efficiency in the electricity industry. Further gain basic knowledge of environmental protection in electric power generation.

Prerequisites

They are required proficiency level of secondary education and a good knowledge of subject content BVEE.

Exercise: 30 points max.
Examination: Maximum 70 points.

Principles of economics, basic concepts and definitions, basics of financial mathematics.
Breakdown of costs and benefits, cost and income flows, depreciation.
The basic financial statements, profit and loss calculations.
Importance, distribution and cost structure in the energy sector.
Investment decision-making, evaluation of investment efficiency.
Fundamentals of Environmental
Influence of power generation on the environment
Measures taken against air pollution
Influence of noise and electrical fields on the environment
Effect of ionizing radiation
Wastes from thermal and nuclear power plants and heating plants

Aims

The aim is to acquaint students with the fundamentals of the economy and the problems of assessing the technical works in the energy sector from an economic perspective and the basics of environmental protection and disposal of harmful substances resulting from the conversion of primary energy to heat and electricity.
