Painting in Context for Exchange Students - Winter

Painting demonstrated on various paintings. Painting techniques. Formal characteristics, composition, color, form. References to other painters. Discussion, analysis of students projects as widely as possible, and register findings to be used to develop the student´s awarness of their expression as artists. References and intentions, formal and technical statements, choice of visual effects, concept and context.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Theoretical and practical awarness and of the field. Ability to reflecct the student´s own work, its form, content and context. The main focus is the production of one´s own individual artistic work. Surveying one´s own production and point sof interest. In a working process, one often finds him or herself encountering, facing questions, problematics, that leads into intuitive decision making.

Basic knowledge of modern and contemporary art

Aims

Orientation in contemporary painting practices with references to painting history.
Art is communication. To discuss the works produced by other artists and to study and use the knowledge as a guiding light towards something a student want to accomplish in his/her own work.
Placing yourself and your work in a discourse, using that as one kind of a method in a working process, results in a new way of thinking, making and understanding. What triggers you? What or who is your inspiration?
