Selected Topics of Design and Realization of Metal and Timber Structures

Composite steel-concrete structural members and components – rules of structural configuration, basic design principles.
Composite wood-concrete structural members and components - rules of structural configuration, basic design principles.
Composite timber – concrete structures and glue laminated timber structures. Design principles, basic calculation, applications.
Assembly connections of timber structures with metal timber fasteners. Design principles, basic calculation.
Reinforcing of elements and connections of timber structures.
Design of timber structures – structural fire design. Behaviour of timber elements and connections during the fire, rules for analysis of structural members, basic design calculation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will learn the problems of the course and will get under controll the course aims, within the meaning of obtaining knowledge and skills in the field of special topics of design and realization of metal and timber structures, concretized in the course schedule.

Course curriculum

1. Composite steel-concrete structural systems - basic principles of behaviour, loading, material, design standards.
2. Steel-concrete girders - ultimate limit state (basic design principles).
3. Steel-concrete girders - serviceability limit state (basic design principles).
4. Steel-concrete girders - shear connectors (types, basic design principles).
5. Steel-concrete columns - basic design principles.
6. Aplications of steel-concrete structural elements and members in building structures, examples of realized structures.
7. Composite structural system compounds of steel and timber with other materials, their behaviour and examples of use in building structures.
8. Composite timber – concrete structures: design principles, basic calculation, application.
9. Glue laminated timber structures – design principles, basic structural details.
10. Assembly connections of timber structures with metal timber fasteners – design principles, basic calculation.
11. Reinforcing of elements and connections of timber structures.
12. Design of timber structures – structural fire design. Behaviour of timber elements during the fire, rules for analysis of structural members, basic design calculation.
13. Design of timber structures – structural fire design. Behaviour of connections of timber elements during the fire, basic design calculation.
