Buildings Barrier - free

The aim of the subject is to extend an architect’s necessary habits with the professional ability of perceiving the space as non-conflict and communicative, respecting a certain difference of its occupants, including the knowledge of the legislation, the architectonic barrier compensation systems, etc.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage the goal of the subject, i.e. knowledge of the design of the buildings for the handicapped, the special ergonomy, the legislation, buildings for the aged, compensation of a handicap.

Prerequisites

The subject applies the knowledge acquired in the subjects of typology and building structures. It is an interdisciplinary application of the basic architectonic barrier-compensation systems. However, the subject is an independent discipline with its particular methodology.

1. Philosophy and nature of the architectonic barrier-free space design
2. Historical development of anthropometry and relation of this field of study to the architectonic space
3. Principles of the applied ergonomy
4. Development of the architecture barrier-free space design – the legislation
5. Communication systems compensating the architectonic barriers – historical development
6. Nonstandard possibilities of compensation of the architectonic barriers - communication
7. Barrier-compensating systems for traffic, culture, sports and administrative buildings
8. Complete building equipment with the handicap - compensating means and systems
9. Individual means of handicap compensation in relation to the environment and space
10. Specific requirements for the building intended for children
11. Building and interior for the aged
12. Barrier-free adaptation of the exterior – public open spaces, city interior
13. Atypical buildings requiring barrier-free adjustment
