Computer support of numerical methods

MATLAB environment, fundamentals of programming language. Applications: numerical analysis of linear and nonlinear algebraic equations and their systems, interpolation and approximation of real functions, least squares method, effective solution of differential equations using finite difference and finite element methods.

Competence to analyze computational problems of engineering practice
using MATLAB-supported advanced numerical methods.

Prerequisites

Basic courses of mathematics for Bc. degree BA06, BA07, BA02, BA04. Simultaneous study of some of the following courses: CA01, CA02, CA04, CA06.

Course curriculum

1.-3. MATLAB as command interpreter and programming language
4.-5. Apprroximation and interpolation of a function
6.-7. Numerical solution of linear systems of algebraic equations
8.-10. Numerical solution of nonlinear algebraic (and other) equations and systems
11.-12. Numerical solution of selected diferential equations
13. Presentation of a semestral project (due to student's specialization)

Aims

Application of software MATLAB to the analysis of problems of numerical mathematics. Facultative upgrade of courses CA01, CA02, CA04 and CA06. At least 10 students required.
