Course detail

Computer Networks

FP-PSIAcad. year: 2012/2013

The course focuses on the following topics: principles of communication within computer networks, designing and construction of computer networks, computer networks management.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

6

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will become familiar with basic principles of computer networks, especially in the area of their designing and structure, as well as the communication principles. After finishing the course they will be able to design a computer network and to solve problems regarding communication within computer networks, and to carry out their management.

Prerequisites

Computer literacy, knowledge of operating systems, computer networks, mathematical logic and numerical systems.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Knowledge is evaluated by testing consists of two parts at different times. The first part is a test. If the student not answer correctly at least 50% of the test questions, than can not continue to the second part. The second part is the oral exam. At the oral examination the student will receive two random questions and has a defined timeframe 20 minutes to prepare. The exam is a discussion of the issues.
Students skills are tested by semestral work.
The test is classified according to ECTS.
The final score is the weighted average of the following weights:
Semestral work 30%
The first part of the exam (test) 20%
The second part of the exam (oral exam) 50%
