Learning outcomes of the course unit

Development of all language skills, consolidation and deepening of knowledge of grammatical structures, and increase in vocabulary with special emphasis on language needed at work.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of English at a level higher than CEF B1. This course follows Practical English 1.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The assessment consists of a written test and final exam. 75% attendance and active participation at classes is required.

1) Modals, deontic and epistemic modality.
2) Word building. Discriminating sounds. Making arrangements.
3) Technical text.
4) Conditional clauses.
5) Phrasal verbs. Being less direct. Clarifying.
6) Third conditional, modals with perfect infinitive. Technical text.
7) Compound adjectives. Listening practice: linking. Dealing with bad news.
8) Relative clauses. Technical text.
9) Gerund and infinitive. Structuring. Expressing approval/disapproval.
10) Passive voice.
11) Confusing words. Taking notes.
12) Revision. Technical text.
13) Semester test.
