Composites and their Technologies II

Composites - introduction, composite applications, resin matrices, fibers, interphases. Composite mechanics. Micromechanics, mechanics of a lamina, laminate mechanics. Composite manufacturing technologies. Composite testing and standardization. Particulate filled plastics. Mechanics of particulate composites. Effects of particle-matrix adhesion.

The prerequisites include polymer physics course (MCO FYP) and mechanics and failure of non-metallic materials (MCO MPM).

Course curriculum

Introduction to FRCs, micro- and macro-mechanics of UD lamina, rule of mixtures, generalized Hook's law, constitutive equation of laminate, elastic modulus of particulate composite, yield strength and fracture behavior of particulate composite, introduction to polymer nanocomposites, resin matrix production technology, introduction to fiber manufacturing, introduction to impregnation technologies

Introduction to advanced analyses of polymer composites, manufacturing technologies and mechanics of fiber composites, laminates and particulate composites including introduction to nanocomposites
