English in Aviation

English in Aviation makes the students acquainted with the terms of aerodynamics, main parts of aircraft and their functions. The other task is to practise 4 main language skills in common English, based on the gained knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge about parts of aircraft, engine, equipment, navigation and flight instruments, flight manoeuvres, meteorology, aerodromes, and air traffic control. Acquaintance with different language structures used only in aviation.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of grammar and vocabulary of common English, level intermediate (level of knowledge gained after passing the examination 7az = B1)

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for obtaining the course-unit credit:
Active participation in the course. To reach min. 18 points (from 30 possible) in a written test.

Aims

The aim is to make the students familiar with the basic terminology of air traffic, air traffic control and aircraft to such an extent that enables them to apply their knowledge in practice. Another task is to enrich their knowledge and improve their ability of communication in common English.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

In case a student does not fulfil the conditions for obtaining the course-unit credit, the teacher may (in justifiable cases) state compensatory conditions.
