The subject is focused on material & technology problems of corrosion engineering, with the emphasis put on the systems approach to the methods and tools for anticorrosion protection. The main stress is laid on acquiring basic knowledge necessary for understanding of theoretical fundamentals of corrosion processes, for classification of the corrosiveness of environment and corrosion resistance of structural materials, forms in which corrosion manifests itself, and effects of corrosion processes. This knowledge is a necessary precondition for proposing an optimum anticorrosion protection. In the area of methods and tools forming the system of anticorrosion protection of metals the emphasis is placed on the integration of data on corrosion-favourable materials, possibilities of modifying corrosive environments, and modern protective coatings, including corrosion testing systems.
