Course detail

Electronic Practice

FEKT-BELPAcad. year: 2012/2013

Introduction to practical experimental work in an electronic laboratory and to basic electronic measurringt techniques, first experience in PC simulation of the behaviour of electronic circuits and in PC design of PCBs. In PC exercises, students deal with computer simulation of simple electronic circuits' behaviour and compare the results with laboratory experiments.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students become familiar with some fundamental works in an electronic laboratory, which are rutinely performed in each experimental work of an electronic specialist, and also with commonly used PC programs for simulation and PCB design.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the secondary school level is required.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Requirements for completion of a course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course (updated for the academic year).

Course curriculum

1. Organization, safety, basic equipment of an electronic laboratory.
2. Supply sources, function generators, multimeters - basic operations, properties.
3. Digital storage oscilloscopes, basic operations, probes and their compensation.
4. Relative measurement in dB (mathematical background, practical training).
5. Advanced functions of digital storage oscilloscopes (mathematical functions, FFT, how to avoid aliasing, advanced triggering).
6. PC-controlled measurement - simple experiments.
7. PC exercise I: introduction to PSpice, schematic editor, postprocessor Probe, markers, transient analysis, initial conditions.
8. PC exercise II: PSpice - working points, parametric analysis.
9. PC exercise III: Eagle - individual design of a simple printed circuit board.
10. Excursion to the workshops of the department: frequently made mistakes in PCB design, technology of etching, precise drilling etc.
11. Experiments with individually assembled circuits on contact fields.
12. Final work on individual projects: drilling, soldering, and testing.
13. Test (practical testing in basic electronic measurement).

Work placements

Aims

The aim of the course is to make students familiar with some fundamental works in an electronic laboratory, which are rutinnely performed in each experimental work of an electronic specialist, and to provide them with their first experience in PC simulation of the behaviour of electronic circuits and in PC design of PCBs.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The content and forms of instruction in the evaluated course are specified by a regulation issued by the lecturer responsible for the course and updated for every academic year.
