Electrical heat technology

Basic technical aplication electrical heating principles in industrial area. It's resistant heating, electric arc aplication, inductive and microwave heating, electron heating. Modern conceptions are represented by plasmatic and electron heating and laser applications.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic knowledges from electrical heating needed for operation, evaluating and rating of equipments. In nonindustrial area knowledges allows design heating systems and its economical calculations and evaluations.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Laboratory protocols, 2 computer exercises and test (examples).
Final exam with example part, theory part and oral exam.

Course curriculum

Introduction to electrothermal technology, basic terms, units.
Heat transfer, conduction, convection, radiation, calculations.
Measuring of temperature in electrothermal technology. Principle of measuring.
Resistance heating, heating element, direct and indirect heating.
Electrical industrial furnace, aplication of heating elements.
Project of resistance crucible furnace for melting of aluminium.
Arc heating, circle diagram of electrical arc furnace.
Induction heating, dielectric heating, microwave heating.
Plasma heating, infrared heating, laser heating, electron heating.

Aims

Course content is to apprise students of scientific basic of electro heating engineering from the range project, traffict and maintenance heating systems.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
