Course detail

Mechanical Design Project II

FSI-ZKRAcad. year: 2012/2013

This course provides students an opportunity to solve more complex engineering project using the knowledge gained in bachelor studies and in block-courses taught in graduate studies. The aim of this course type is to enable students to gain practical experience during solution of the project on the basis of teamwork, as it happens in practice.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After passing the course, students will be able to solve complex problems, they will gain experience with teamwork, improve the presentation and communication skills. The project enable students to appropriately apply the knowledge gained during the block teaching prerequisites at the beginning of the semester.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of: Plastic prototypes and Rapid prototyping , Reverse engineering and optical digitization ,Strength of Materials I; Strength of Materials II, Tribology; Parametric Modeling - Inventor, Catia, Rhinoceros; Finite Element Method - ANSYS Classic; Measurement and Experiment

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depends on the education type and are described in Article 7 of the Study and Examination Regulations of BUT.
At the beginning of the semester project assignments will be published. Students will be divided into groups with 3-5 members, each group will address chosen engineering project. Solution will start in 5th week. Students will be familiarized with the date of the control points and requirements for the presentation of the results (tentatively, checkpoints will be held at 7 and 10 weeks). Failure to participate in the checkpoint or failure of the solution according to the previous agreement will result in credit denial. Final presentation and defense of the projects will be held during the examination period.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit will be given for submission of fully developed project in digital and printed form. A necessary condition is regular attendance at classes. In the digital format shall be delivered: 1- CAD data, 2- Technical report or final report, 3- Drawings (if required by assignment), 4- poster in PPTX format and PDF format for printing, 5 presentation in PPTX format. In paper form will be delivered: 1- Technical or final report, 2- Drawing documentation. Exam will be awarded on the basis of presentation and successful defense. Final mark is the average of marks awarded by teachers during defense of the project.
