Laboratory Classes in Modern Reproduction Processes

FCH-MAO_MRP_PAcad. year: 2012/2013

Laboratory classes are focused on work with digital photographic cameras, understanding color management system in workflow and communication, learning of inkjet printing techniques, digital microphotography, objective evaluation of prints, print characteristics control and accelerated ageing of prints, ICC profiles creation. The objective evaluation of materials and images is emphasized.
This practical lab course must be registered together with the theoretical lecture course.

Offered to foreign students

Of all faculties

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will obtain practical knowledge of color managements system application in printing process and communication. They also obtain practical knowledge of methods of objective evaluation of prints ageing and digital camera handling.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of classic photographic techniques and colorimetry basics.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This course is organized as a practical laboratory course, i.e., the students work independently in pairs under the supervision of a teacher and a laboratory technician.
Teaching and learning is aided by the means of an e-learning course which contains all necessary study materials.
Introductory reading, detailed working instructions and report preparation instructions are provided for each task so most of the time students are able to work fully independently.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course final grade will be granted on the basis of:
- 100% attendance of the course (lessons missed for medical and serious personal reasons need to be substituted at the end of the semester)
- submitting reports from all the lessons
- final written test (100-90% = A, 89-80 = B, 79-70 = C, 69-60 = D, 59-50 = E, 49-0 = F).

Aims

The aim of the Laboratory classes in modern reproduction processes is to provide them practical training of color management, modern workflow of printing process, objective evaluation of digital camera properties and accelerated ageing of prints.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

In the beginning of the lab lesson, the theoretical knowledge and preparation of students is briefly checked by means of a few oral questions.
A written report summarizing the work procedure, measured data and their interpretation must be composed for each of the 12 tasks. It must be submitted by the end of the semester at latest, preferably the following week after the task has been passed. Unsatisfactory reports are returned for corrections.
