Economic Statistics

FAST-CV51Acad. year: 2012/2013

In the subject students will be informed about developments and present of statistics. For usage of statistical data there is necessary to understand the verbalization tools of statistics. Without understanding of principles identification of dependences and measurement of indexes it is not possible to right suppose or to use results of statistical survey. Statistical service in the Czech Republic is organized by Czech Statistical Office and ministries. Attention is focused on economic statistics and its particular parts. Part of the subject is also information about selected statistical software.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain knowledge about the subject and content of economic statistics. The course focuses on statistics in construction companies especially on price statistics, labour and wages in the construction industry. Students manage a methodology for measuring and examining statistical dependencies and defining indicators. Based on the mastered theory they are able to calculate indices, compile statistical time-series data and use it in practice. They are eligible to use statistical software to explore data sets.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of mathematics from the area of probability and statistical mathematics. Knowledge and ability from area of work engineering, economics of work, coding and classification of construction production and from area of pricing in civil engineering.

Co-requisites

Not required

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Education is divided into lectures and seminars.
The lecturer prepares a presentation in PowerPoint for each lecture. Theory is discussed, completed with brief examples, diagrams, pictures or graphs. There is a brief summary at the end of a partial block of education and its understanding is verified with control questions by a teacher. At the end of the lecture, students are invited to a discussion.
Exercises contain theory repetitions, the familiarization of task and its processing. The pr

Study of the course is completed with credit. Credit is awarded after completion of all obligations, i.e. attendance in seminars, submission of individual work and successfully passing the credit test.
The written test consists of 20 questions. Written test can be supplemented by an oral discussion. The final grade is a summary of test evaluation, quality and deadlines of submission of individual work in seminars.
