Course detail

Cooling of Buildings

FAST-BT55Acad. year: 2012/2013

The goal of this subject is to inform students with the issue of cooling for needs of air-condition and the basics of cooling for conservation of foods. Introduction is about principal terms of the thermodynamics and the theory of cooling cycles. Primary content of this subject are kinds of machines which are used in cooling, classification and the main parts of cooling systems. Refrigerants and heat-transfer fluids - properties and present requirements on them. Cooling machine rooms. Proper standards. Another theme is new and present trend in the cooling technologies and energy saving cooling methods, including accumulation of cold.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will get basic knowledge about cooling cycles, refrigerant machines and alternative cooling systems for cooling of buildings. Students will be able to use this knowledge for design of basic systems of cooling of buildings.
These are namely the design of air, water and refrigerant cooling systems. Students will be able to count the required cooling capacity, to design the cooling machine end elements, to design the piping and design the cooling machine rooms. Designing of cold rooms.

Prerequisites

Principles of thermodynamics and heat transfer, ventilation, air-conditioning, heating, dimensioning of pipe networks, creation of project documentation, calculation of noise transmission

Co-requisites

Alternative energy systems for heating and cooling, energy consumption of cooling systems
