Quaility Management Systems

Principles of the two most significant quality management philosophies, i.e. the total quality management (TQM) and re-engineering. The course is dealing in more detail especially with the first part – introduction of the quality system and its development into the quality management system. Then it is dealing with the relations of TQM to another systems, e.g. the occupational safety and environmental systems. Students are made acquainted also with basic quality manual in the building industry, with personnel training system and certification system.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students are informed about newest world trends in area of quality management and its application into construction organization and building:
- principles and structure of Quality Management System according to requierements of ISO 9001,
- documentation of Quality Management System neccessary for construction company and building,
- principles of internal audit of Quality Management System according to ISO 19011,
- principles of Total Wuality Management method and KAIZEN system,
- principles of reengineering method,
- model of excellence EFQM,
- Integrated Management System applicated into construction company and building.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of building technology and realization in the given branch. Preparation of the quality and environment inspections.

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Active participation in semniars, max. 1 absence, evolvement of assignments. Exam: written and oral

Course curriculum

1. Quality – total quality management. Evaluation of the recent situation in the building industry.
2. Quality management system in the terms of ČSN EN ISO 9001:2001 in building construction and engineering constructions. Characteristics. Introduction procedure.
3. Structure of standards. Structure and contents of the quality management system documentation in the building company – quality manual.
4. Company management responsibility at the quality management system introduction, its review and audit.
5. Management of resources, qualifications, education plan and internal personnel training.
6. Product realization – buildings. Review of contractual requirements. Selection and evaluation of building contractors and makers. Instrumentation and their calibration. SW for quality.
7. Quality management system documentation – quality plan, inspection and testing plan, technology regulations. Site diary.
8. Quality monitoring on sites, quality records. Storing and storehouse quality requirements.
9. Construction efficiency, QMS audit, safety system audit, supervisor assessment (TDI).
10. Corrective and preventive measures. Relief of shortages. QMS certification..
11. (TQM, Total quality management). Characteristic features and factors. EFQM model.
12. Reengineering – characteristics, changes, contractors, application within the company.
13. Integrated manager system (IMS) in the building company. Construction evaluation from the quality, environment and occupational safety point of view.

Aims

To introduce the students in the quality management system as defined in the EU by ČSN EN ISO standards of 9000 series. To explain the quality control systems in building industry and in the real terms of the building companies. Practical handling with ČSN EN ISO standards of 9000 series.
