Law in the Area of Civil Engineering Business

This course is cross-sectional course. It is oriented to branches of law with problems in civil engineering business in the Czech Republic. Legislation interpretation explains discretions, duties and legal consequences associated with these activities. The rules for exercise activities in civil engineering and kinds of business licences are determined. The characteristics of contractual relationships and kinds of contracts are explained. The labour-law relations, the issue of checking and problems associated with administrative law are interpreted.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
• understand systemize business legislation
• distinguish the character of legal relations and is subsumed under the legal branch
• apply the relevant legal case law
• orient themselves in public and private registries, understand their content and purpose
• get to know with appropriate information sources and be able to find appropriate information

Prerequisites

None special knowledge is requested. The course connects general knowledge from bachelor study at non-law faculties.

Co-requisites

Expected to have basic knowledge of the law on the level and scope of secondary education and shall be no more expert knowledge.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Active participation in seminars, including presentations given topics. Successful completion of the final written test.

1. Business law system – law theory, private and public law.
2. Behaviour of entrepreneur – legal and illegal behaviour, law acts
by commercial and civil code.
3. Liability for damage – commercial and civil code.
4. Discretions and duties of company statutory body members –
commercial and civil code, the trades licensing act.
5. Civil engineering business – building act, the trades licensing
act, act on authorization of persons with activities in civil
engineering.
6. Labour-law relations – labour code.
7. Contractual relationships – kinds of contracts by commercial and
civil code, tenders act.
8. Inspection activity – financial law, administrative law,
procedural law, court inspection.

Aims

The aim of this cross-sectional course is to inform the students about branches of law focused on problems in civil engineering business in the Czech Republic.
