Professional practical training

The scope of the practical training is active work of the student during the implementation of a particular construction work leading to the development of his professional, theoretical and practical knowledge. At least 70% of the training period the student carries out the job at the construction site, especially in the position of site manager assistant, 30% of the training period (at the most) he works at the construction preparation. The student should keep a record called „Record of the course of the practical training“, he or she is guided by the trainer selected from the company staff who gives his opinion on the quality of the student´s job in the final assessment.
At the end of the course each student makes the other students acquainted with the job he made within the practical training incl. presentation of prepared documents or papers, or photo documentation of the construction. This activity takes place as a workshop.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

During the professional training course the student can put into practice the skills and knowledge acquired in previous courses. The student acquires experience from real situations at the actual construction site. This experience helps to consolidate the previously acquired theoretical knowledge. The student is then qualified to hold positions such as construction engineer manager or construction engineer manager assistant eventually other positions related to the pre-production and production stages of building construction. The student acquires personal experience and therefore well prepared for the actual job. The student established relations at professional level with the construction company and gathers work reference.
The end of term seminar allows students to learn from each other about the different construction projects currently in progress in the Czech Republic, their scope and technologies used, some financial and time management information as well and eventually some specifications and conditions of construction
The company regularly evaluates the student and he/she gets acquainted with the evaluation given. The “Training log book” serves to collect data that reflect the course of the student´s professional training which is a source of feedback for the student.
The student has to prepare a presentation which provides him with presentation skills
Listening to classmates presentation the student the student can emulate his/her skills with the rest of the class. This can provide him with experience for his further professional career.
All the work done throughout the professional practical training help the students in further years.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the construction technology, preparation and execution in the scope of the existing bachelor and 1st year of the master study program for the R branch.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.The professional training course´s purpose is to deepen the knowledge and skills learnt during studies and to apply them in the real work environment. The course helps to extend knowledge and to get acquainted with the work methods of extracurricular institutions, in this case construction companies related to construction preparation and implementation. Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

During the course of the professional practice, the construction site in which the student performs can be visited at random by inspectors of the supervising institute for the purpose of observation and evaluation
The conditions for the credit is the fulfilment of the 10-week long on site practical training, the submission of the completed “Record of the course of the practical training”, the participation in the end of course seminar and to present in front of the other students

Course curriculum

Professional practical training will take place continuously for 10 subsequent weeks, beginning wit the first week after the end of the examination period in the 2nd study semester. The company will allot the student for the job on site for 6-8 weeks and the job in the construction preparation department will take 2-4 weeks.
The student will perform the given job under supervision of the named representative of the building contractor who will give his opinion to the quality of the job made in the assessment part of „ Record of the course of the practical training“
The credit is subject to passing the practical training on site and to the active participation in the final workshop (2-3days), where each student will present his activity during the practical training before the committee consisting of the representatives of the teachers and company representatives.
As a result of meeting the above obligations and taking in consideration the assessment of the building company representative in the „ Record of the course of the practical training“, the teacher will give the student the classified credit.

Work placements

This course is a mandatory 10-week long field training for students who study Building implementation. Students have the training in leading construction companies. The arrangement of the student´s professional practice is done on a legal basis (contract). The supervising institute oversees the course of the professional training.

Aims

Verification and application of knowledge acquired in the course of study,
gaining of practical experience with the construction realization,
presumption for faster adaptation at starting in the job,
creation of conditions for professional growth and advancement in the higher management positions,
building companies will proof the knowledge and skills of the student for further possible cooperation.

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Recommended optional programme components

It is optional to link the topic of the student´s thesis with the professional training. The student can address selected parts of the construction technological project for Diploma thesis I (R) based on the design documentation of the construction in progress he/she has been assigned to as part of the professional practical training.
