Diploma Project - Module M3

Creative studio work is the main and essential means of teaching architecture. It is based on the "learning by doing" method, i.e. gaining knowledge and skills by practical application. It consists in the dialogue of the teacher with the student over a project that is being developed. Thematically, it covers the contents of Module M3-Architecture in the technical civilisation. The diploma project is to show the graduate's general preparedness for the profession, his ability to pass the examination at the Czech Chamber of Architects and , eventually, to manage a freelance design office.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

He or she proves the ability to design constructions of any type, as employee of a design office.

Prerequisites

Creation of dissertation work uses knowledge of all previous theoretical subjects of bachelor´s and graduate studies and experience gained in practice.

Co-requisites

Diploma Project is privileged student work under the guidance of the lecturer.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The dissertation work is evaluated by five member commission formed from specialists to meet requirements form Study and examination rules of VUT and to be ready to assess quality of the work and its defence.

Aims

To prove the ability of individual creative approach to architectonic designing and the knowledge of typology.
The aim is to work out urbanistic and architectonic concept of solving given task including broad relations that thematically corresponds to M3 module – architecture of technical civilisation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Presence on consultations with work leader and specialists.

Recommended optional programme components

Teaching rooms - studios are available hours off schedule. The course is recommended for both lectures of visiting teachers, practicing architects, both tied workshops on assignment.
