Preprocessing of analog signal, parallel converters with switched resistor netwrks and switched current sources, parallel and serial D/A converters, indirect D/A converters, converters with cyclic resistor interchange, comparative A/D converters, compensating A/D converters, integrating A/D converters, A/D converters with automatic correction of conversion characteristic, U/f and f/U converters, D/f converters, digital measurement of time intervals, phase, frequency.

Aims

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic principles of A/D and D/A converters, the properties of integrated converters and their possible applications

Application potentials of A/D, D/A, U/F, F/U and D/F converters
Signal preprocessing: programmable amplifiers- principles of operation, programmable instrument amplifiers, integrated programmable amplifiers Burr-Brown and Harris Semiconductor, differential programmable amplifiers, analog multiplexers and demultiplexers
Filtering circuits used in coverters: programmable integrated antialiasing filters, filters for suppressing quantization noise, filters for indirect D/A converters used in digitally controlled calibration standards
Sample Hold/Track circuits: sampler parameters, fast samplers, samplers with large input resistance, examples of solving integrated samplers, application principles
D/A converters: basic classification, d.c. and dynamic converter parameters
D/A converters: switches used in converters, parallel D/A converters with reference voltage sources, with weighted resistors, with the R-2R resistor network, with cyclic resistor interchange, with weighted current sources
D/A converters with non-linear characteristic, serial D/A converters, indirect D/A converters, solution examples and application potentials of integrated converters, recommendations on the design of systems with integrated D/A converters
