Course detail

Basics of Anatomy and Histology

FEKT-AANAAcad. year: 2013/2014

Foundations of anatomy are composed as a major morphological field of study with clinical notes for all types of Bachelor study, some chapters offer more detailed explanation – e.g. the locomotory system for physiotherapeuts, digestive system for the specialisation Nutrition, etc. Selected anatomical and clinical aids are demonstrated.
Foundations of histology provide an overview of the microscopic and submicroscopic structure of cells, tissue and organs. The knowledge of these issues is essential for understanding of the fundamental control mechanisms in human organism and for understanding of the functions of individual organs.

Language of instruction

Department

Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University Brno (LF MU)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course participant is able to describe human organism and its macroscopic and microscopic structure included basic physiological aspects. He is able to apply this knowledge in different clinical disciplines with regard to the possibilities of specialized bioengineering interventions within the organ and system structures.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of biology and eventually basics of chemistry at secondary school level.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Requirements for successful completion of the subject are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year. The standard criterion is the exam in the form of the PC test. Final exam tests knowledge of the foundations of anatomy and histology and understanding of physiological and clinical perspective.

Course curriculum

1. The basic description of tissues.
2. The basic description of the individual organs.
3. The basic description of the systems of the human body - skeletal, muscular and articular, respiratory, endocrine, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, urogenital, nervous and sensory system.
4. Explanation of the basic physiological and clinical links.
5. Fundamentals of human cytology, tissue types.
6. A brief overview of hostological structure of the most important organs.

Work placements

Not applicable.

Aims

To provide the students with the fundamental knowledge of the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the systems and organs of human organism, understanding of the hierarchy of the relationship: cell – tissue – organ – the whole organism.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Laboratory exercises are mandatory.
