Communication In Management

The course focuses on relevant psychological knowledge necessary for efficient corporate management and increasing the efficiency of the company. Mastering and development of social and managerial as well as entrepreneurial skills are emphasized, especially in the field of intradepartmental social communication. Also dealt with is the training with respect to searching and finding application alternatives affective in present and future practice.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire relevant psychological knowledge from the field of social competence of manager. They will master especially the following skills: identification of communication goals, active listening, exoteric formulation of requirements and opinions, analysis of communication problems, choice of relevant communication strategy and tactics and their successful application, prevention of misunderstanding as well as increasing of individual, team and organizational performance by means of creative communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions of awarding the graded course-unit credit:
Cooperation in lectures and participation in seminars including relevant preparation and active participation in the communication skills training.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction to the course, importance of social communication for the work, competence of a manager and entrepreneur and their efficiency. Conception of the course.
2. Psychology of personality; influence of personality subsystems and characteristics on intrapersonal and interpersonal communication
3. Patterns of social perception and its consequences, possibilities of the application of these patterns for increasing efficiency of the social communication.
4. Social communication during social contact especially in the sphere of personnel management. Phases of communication process and characteristics of the communication participants. Basic communication skills, key factors supporting effectiveness of communication and their influence on the course and result of communication process.
5. Presentation of fundamental theoretical models and strategies of social communication, explanation of their application for the increased efficiency of social communication, especially by means of communication goals identification, communication problems analysis and choice of relevant communication strategies and techniques.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with practically applicable psychological knowledge and skills explaining social communication as a key tool for personal management. The course deals with the presentation of key factors influencing social communication and its effects as well as mastering knowledge of social communication expository models and their practical use. Also dealt with is mastering and development of concrete managerial and entrepreneurial skills necessary for the effective personnel management.

Attendance at lectures is recommended, attendance at lessons is compulsory and controlled.
