Hydraulic Processes

The course is concerned with a unit operation in a liquid medium. Theoretical knowledge of unit operation is characterized by mass and momentum transfer in different rheological properties. Design of main dimensions of industrial apparatus. Ecological aspects are accepted.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Applications of fundamental theoretical knowledge.
Principles and design of main dimensions of process plant equipments including pump and compressors.

Basic knowledge from mathematics and physics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements: Regular and active participation in seminars, and passing two credit written exams. The criteria of each of credit written exams is gaining more than 5 points of maximal 10 points.
The examination has both written and oral parts.

Aims

The course objective is to make students familiar with the design of process equipments. Acquired knowledge can be used in other industrial branch.

2. Rheological quality of liquids (Newtonian and non-Newtonian).
3. Industrial piping and fitting.
4. Hydraulic of porous partitions.
5. Filtration of suspension. Industrial filters.
6. Gravitational sedimentation of particles - theory.
7. Industrial sedimentation plants
8. Flotation and aeration of liquids.
9. Centrifugal sedimentation. Cyclones.
10. Fluidization, theory and industrial use.
11. Mixing of liquids.
12. Pumps in process engineering.
13. Compressors and vacuum pumps.
