Computer Graphics I - CorelDraw/Adobe

Basic knowledge of hardware and software used during graphic processing, work with vector and bitmap graphics software. Exploring DTP techniques, different graphic formats and pre-press jobs. Practical implementation of CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and its use for making 2D vector graphics, web graphics, text documents, posters for project presentations and technical drawings.
The course has been upgraded with the support of the OPVK project. "The Studio digital sculpture and new media project", reg. No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0278, is co-financed by the European Social Fund and the state budget of the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course "Computer Graphics - CorelDraw" enables students to acquire practical proficiency for work with 2D graphics. Students learn how to use all program features for implementation of their own ideas and projects and for poster presentation of various semester projects. Students learn the process of creative thinking and its ideas implementation, which must never be compromised due to graphic program features and its limits.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of work with PC in Windows XP OS. Experience with computer 2D graphics is an advantage.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through exercises which are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements: attendance in lessons, meeting assigned projects deadlines, practical test verifying the knowledge of work with the software and creative work ability.
Resulting evaluation consists of evaluations on projects, tasks and a test. In total it will be possible to aquire 100 points. Resulting classification will be defined by the ECTS scale.
If some of the projects are awarded less than half of the maximum pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed".
According to the article No. 13 of Study and Examination Rules of Brno University of Technology ECTS evaluation degree scale is used. . If some of the projects are awarded less than 50 pts., final evaluation of the course is "failed". The course is evaluated with the following grades: ECTS EVALUATION DEGREES / PTS. RATING / NUMERIC RATING: A / 100 - 90 / 1 / Excellent; B /89 - 80 / 1,5 / Very good; C / 79 - 70 / 2 / Good; D / 69 - 60 / Satisfactory; E / 59 - 50 / Sufficient; F / 49 - 0 / 4 / Failed.

Aims

The main goal of Computer Graphic I - CorelDraw/Adobe is to make students familiar with possibilities and features of software for making various 2d graphics, posters and prints and pre-press jobs, to study and use most common graphic software. Students work out their semester projects at different stages with full support of computer technologies.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance in education is controlled. Students have to stay in given education hours in the computer laboratory, wait for consultation and work on the projects. The excuse of absence is possible only due serious reasons such as illness. Unexcused absence may jeopardise awarding a course-unit credit.

5. Adobe Illustrator 1 - introducing to Adobe Illustrator work environment, main features, color gamut, file formats, techniques of work, creating a new project, main tool palettes, file operations
6. Adobe Illustrator 1 – creating objects from basic geometric shapes, creating and editing of objects by free curves, object properties, stroke, fill, gradient, transparency
