Learning outcomes of the course unit

General information about principles and types of communication. Theoretical knowledge of communication process, ability to using an effective communication in various situations in firm, work and personal life. Preparation of the content and form of the speech principles of communication between people. Practical use of the gained knowledge and experience by means of series of "public speech" in various chosen topics with using of video. Self-reflection and analysis of mistakes in speech.

Prerequisites

The subject extends the knowledge gained in the course of secondary education, therefore no other technical in the high education course is required, enjoy the communication theory is wellcomed, knowledge of general psychology, experiences of speech, recognising of other peoples' speech, motivation to self-communication improving.

Theory of peronality, develop psychology, temperament, character, connection between personal development and communication, communication styles, direction styles, effectiveness in communication, nonverbal dommunication, gestures, face feelings, motivation, discussion, direction of debates, communication between men and women, communication betweeen partners, social communication, communication in firm, ethics, communication styles.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Explanation is passed by the word-teaching method in the form of lectures accompanied by rich presentation material. Theory is followed by small communication acitivites. Lectures and other materials beyond the recited topics can be found in LMS Moodle. The rest of lessons is paid to communication activities (public speech, prezentation skills, dialogues, persuasion).

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students show their orientation in theory of communication and rhetorics in test from theoretical part. They also prepare several public speech of chosen topics from the area of general and applied communication in term. Summary evaluation consists of the written test from the theoretical part (50%) and managing of five various communication activities, e. g. public speech and presentations on various topics (50%).

1. Introduction social sciences, its use of theory and practice of civil engineering.
2. Social psychology and its place in personal life; Psychological terminology - memory, speech and mind.
3. Methods of psychological and communication research: Dialog, questionnaire, anamnesis. Education and self-education. The influence of environment on personality.
4. Personality, general questions and structure of personality. Temperament and character. Types of personality. Intelligence and intellect.
5. Development and formation of a personality. Age periods of a personality development. Biological and sociological determination of personality.
6. Rhetorics and principles of communication. Rhetorics as a science and art.
7. Diction-respiration, phonation, articulation.
8. Preparation of the content and from of a speech-principles of communication betwern people.
9. Language means, stylistic means.
10. Body language-facial expression, gestures, positions.
11. Segmentationof a speech. Introduction, body of the speech, conslusion.
12. The most common spoken and Written discourses in practical life. Monologues and dialogues.
13. Practical use of the gained knowedge and experience by means of self-reflexion test in the from of so called public speech using video.
