Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will manage basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the creation and update large-scale maps and their uses from detailed survey through computational works, to the creation of graphical outputs. Student will be able to distinguish qualitative parameters of large-scale maps and will gain an overview of related regulations.

Prerequisites

Handling with total station and other geodetic instruments, coordinate computations in geodetic software, work with MicroStation environment including geodetic extensions.

Co-requisites

Working with graphics software usable for creating large scale maps, using libraries of line and point map symbols, fundamentals of topological and attribute correctness.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. Students also have a tutorial LMS Moodle "GE10 - Mapping I" whose content is mainly the presentation of lectures, exercise schedule, tasks and materials for their preparation. For students in the course is organized excursion to the trigonometric point "Strom" with expert commentary.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance at seminars is compulsory (2 outs can be apologized). They write the 3 written tests, the sum of points of all tests must be at least 50% of the total of all achievable points. All required programs must be completed. The exam is composed from written test and oral part. The exercise can receive a maximum of 30 points, a maximum of 70 points can be obtained from the exam. For successful completion of the course exam, you must obtain at least 50% of the total of 100 points obtainable.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction, definition of basic concepts, terminology, maps (graphical, numerical, GIS), national map series, geodetic controls, reference systems, numbering of geodetic points.
2. Basic forms of terrain relief, ways representation of hypsography in large-scale maps, interpolation and construction of contour lines.
3. Surveying sketch creation, content, terms, used symbolism, sketch completing.
4. Methods for large-scale mapping. Type tasks.
5. Operation and setting total station for large-scale mapping, registration of measured data, downloading data, application of mathematical and physical correction of measured lengths.
6. Computer processing of the measured data, methods of solution, potential pitfalls.

INSPIRE Directive of the European Parliament, the digital map of public administration, digital technical maps, technical map of the village.
8. Basic and thematic large-scale maps - map symbols, accuracy class, testing of the accuracy, graphic design.
9. Other options for data capture (GNSS - RTK, FTG, mobile mapping, laser scanning).
10. DTM, DSM, DEM (Atlas DMT), visualizations, outputs.
11. Recapitulation, consultation, information on the content of the written and verbal parts of exam.
