Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student will be able after successful absolving of the subject to design standard solution selected systems of environmental engineering with renewable sources of energy. He will be able to process documentation to thermal solar system for preparing hot water. He will have basics knowledge about application heat pumps like a power source. He can solve boiler rooms up to 50 kW to solid renewable fuels including storage and transport of these fuels. He gets survey about influence use of renewable energy for energy performance of buildings. He will be acquainted with chosen possibilities of use waste heat. Student will be able to use of obtained knowledge for complex solution technical equipment of buildings and for application management principles of energy management.

Prerequisites

Basics of thermal engineering. Basics of heating systems and air-conditioning systems in buildings.

Co-requisites

Basics of Cooling.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. The lectures are given an interpretation problems and model solutions. In practice, students address topics presented on the individual examples.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Compliance with mandatory participation in seminars.
Preparation for seminars and active participation.
The development of the individual parts given an individual project within the specified deadlines.
Attendance at lectures and demonstration of knowledge fulfilment of a written test and oral composition.

3. Composition of phytomass and phytofuels and their energetic importance. Systems for burning of solid phytofuels.
4. Solar energy. Passive solar energy utilization.
5. Active solar systems for heat production. Domestic water preparation, support of heating, swimming bath waser preparation.
6. Solar systems for generation of electricity.
7. Wind power.
9. Sources of low-potential heat. Heat pumps.
10. Heat pump systems in systems of Building Services.
11. Secondary sources of energy. Utilization of waste heat.
12. Principals of combined heat and power production – cogeneration units.
13. Economic effectiveness of sources. Buildings energy consumption and renewable sources of energy application.

Primary energy, its resources and transformations for the creation of the indoor climate. Renewable energy resources and technical tools of its utilization in systems of environment. Economic and ecological effects of energy transformations.

Basics methods of energy conversions. Biomass, phytomass and phytofuels production. Theory of combustion solid fuels.
Boiler rooms for biomass, storage of fuels. Accumulation of thermal energy. Multi-source heat systems.
Passive systems of use solar energy in buildings. Active solar systems with use of air.
Active solar systems for heat production for hot water heating, heating support, design and dimensioning.
Active solar systems for pool water heating for outside and inside pools., design and dimensioning.
Photovoltaic insular solar systems. Use of wind energy.
Low potentialheat sources. systems with heat pumps in area of technical equipment of buildings.
