Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students extend their basic knowledge of plumbing engineering especially in the area of water pumping, extinguishing systems and hot water preparation. They will be able to decide on water supply for buildings concept, to do conjoint hydraulic calculations, to design relevant pumping stations and to process necessary schemes. They gain knowledge of sprinkler extinguishing systems and their hydraulic calculation. Students will be able to design hot water preparation depending on analyse of their demand for buildings.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of hydraulics - water flow in a closed pressurized systems and gravity flow systems, basic principles of plumbing, basic knowledge of hot water supply systems.

Co-requisites

Fundamental lows of hydraulics. Theory of pressure losses.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations. The lectures include elaboration of basic principles, design methods and standard cases solutions. During practices the students practice calculations and relevant solutions for individually submitted building. They can see models of building services systems and its accessories in the department laboratory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Compulsory attendance at practices. Recommended attendance at lectures. Elaboration of individual calculations and technical schema within specified terms. Protocols submission in the credit week. Fulfilment of written and oral exam at a satisfactory grade.
