Institute of Railway Structures and Constructions (ZEL)

A student acquires skills in transport terminology, division, design and parameters of transport structures. Student is introduced to track geometry parameters and learns to design track horizontal and vertical alignment. The student acquires skills in design of road structures and introduces to city roads. Student also acquires skills in data collection for automatic projecting, projecting line structures by help of computer techniques.

Elementary basis of geodesy and information technology, knowledge of CAD systems.

Understanding of information systems and databases with connection to spatial identification.

Teaching is kept in a form lectures, seminars and individual consultations. The students' work is completed by specified individual work, work assigned for individual study with the active participation of students and students' work with LMS Moodle. Excursions to the construction sites or to manufacturers are organized.

The course is completed with a credit and exam. A student answers questions regarding railway and road structures.
Acquisition of the credit is conditional on attendance and delivery of project - design of a section of double track line.

1. Transport terminology, basic terms, strategy and development of transport in the Czech Republic according to EU.
2. Transport infrastructure and its relation to EU.
3. Development of world railway network. Development and characteristics of railway network within the Czech territory, organizing and maintenance structure of Czech Railways.
4. Basic division of railway structures. Track alignment design parameters and its spatial positions, track alignment design parameters for tilting trains.
5. Geodesic survey of spatial position of rail tracks, optimization tasks of rail spatial position, alignment and assurance of rail spatial position.
6. Track clearances, axial distances of rail tracks.
7. Rail switch construction. Subdivision and construction of rail substructure and its construction layers – basic terms.
8. Construction of rail superstructure.
9. Urban rail transport.
10. Characteristics of railway and highway network within CR, urban communications and airports, integrated transportation systems. Categories of roads and highways, local transport communications, detaching and parking areas.
11. Routes of road communication, horizontal and vertical alignment, change of lateral declination.
12. Width arrangement of land communications. Earth object and draining. Road and its construction. Safety devices.
13. Data collection for automatic projecting, projecting line structures by help of computer techniques.

The objective of the subject is to introduce students to the problems of transport terminology, division, design and parameters of transport structures and to practise acquires knowledge and skills.

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

A student can attend conferences, workshops or excursions focused on transport structures.
