Bachelor’s Seminar (K-KDK)

The seminar is aimed at preliminary work and completion of bachelor’s project.
Choice of subject of bachelor’s project, specification of basic disposition and structural parameters in reference to particular subject of the project. Project elaboration requirements.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge and skills in the field of the design of members and connections of load-carrying steel structures. Connections between static design and structural detailing. Elaboration of a static and structural design of a simple steel structure.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the design of members and connections of metal and timber structures. Principles of structural mechanics, elasticity, strength and plasticity, which necessary for the design of simple steel, steel-concrete or timber structure.

Co-requisites

Extension of knowledge of structural mechanics, elasticity, strength and plasticity. Obtaining knowledge in the field of the civil structure modelling.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at practical classes is compulsory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For the successful graduation of this course it is necessary to elaborate the static and structural design of simple steel, steel-concrete or timber structure.

Course curriculum

1. Submission of bachelor’s project, methods, processes and forms of projects.
2. Study of the literature, study of normative and technical instructions and documents.
3. Alternative structural design.
4. Specification of basic parameters in accordance with particular theme of the project.
5. Corresponding computational models composition.
6. Loading determination.
7. Load-bearing structure calculation.
8. Result of solution checking.
9. Alternatives of the constructional solution.
10. Design of the basic details.
11. Working drawing.
12. Specification of the materials.
13. Completion,completion of bachelor’s project.

The objective of the subject is to introduce students to the problems of this course and to practise acquires knowledge and skills.

2.-4. Geometry and composition of a structure, preliminary static design.
4.-9. Work on the project: modelling, static solution, dimensioning. Consultation with Bachelor´s thesis supervisor.
10.-11. Work on the project: structural detailing, drawing documentation. Consultation with Bachelor´s thesis supervisor.
12. Completion of the project.
