History of Architecture II.

Knowledge of the Middle Ages architecture, from the ancient Christians, over the Byzantine and Islamic architecture, the Pre-Romanesque architecture, the Old Slavonic architecture, the European and the Czech Romanesque and Gothic architecture to the most outstanding Middle Ages building complexes; development of the art of construction in relation to the social and economic background and the stage of technological development.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will know Pre-Romanesque architecture.
Student will know Romanesque architecture.
Student will know Gothic architecture.
Student will know principles of medieval urbanism.
Student will know medieval architectural styles and technologies.

Prerequisites

The subject connects with the history of the Antiquity, partially applying the knowledge of the building construction subjects.

3. Pre-Romanesque architecture from 6th to 10th century in the territory of France and Germany
4. Art of construction of the Great Moravian Slavs
5. Romanesque architecture – cultural and social background, technology, space, set of architectonic elements
6. Romanesque architecture – Italy, France, Germany
7. Romanesque architecture –Bohemia and Moravia
8. Gothic architecture – cultural and social background, technology, space, set of architectonic elements
9. Gothic architecture – France, England
10. Gothic architecture – Germany, Italy
11. Gothic architecture – Bohemia and Moravia I.
12. Gothic architecture - Bohemia and Moravia II.
13. The most outstanding Middle Ages building complexes in Bohemia and foreign countries.

Knowledge of the history of architecture, the ancient Christians, the Byzantine and Islamic architecture, the Pre-Romanesque architecture, the Romanesque architecture, the Gothic in foreign countries, the Gothic in the Czech lands.
