Prevention of Chemical Accidents

Characterization of major chemical accidents. Prevention of major chemical accidents. Formatting objects (facilities) with hazardous chemical substances to the basic groups A or B and their characteristics. Risk analysis and evaluation of major chemical accident. Safety programme and safety report. Interior and exterior emergency plan. Insurance of responsibility for caused damages. Determination of zone for emergency planning and information of public about its range and security measures. Evaluation of chemical incidents and chemical accidents.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Increasing knowledge and qualification of students at the following areas:
a) understanding mutual relations at the prevention of major chemical accidents,
b) setting up the determination of objects or installations into the group A or B,
c) to propose the methods for analyses and evaluation of risks, including recommendations of suitable SW tools to solve impacts from major chemical accidents,
d) to obtain the pre-condition for study in the subject MCO_DSZ, following study programme.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of the course is conditional on the knowledge of physical chemistry, organic, anorganic and enviromental chemistry.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, Seminar - 1 teaching hour per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The study of the subject will be finished the final consultation and the oral examination according to the presented lectures related to the class of study.

Aims

The subject will provide students advanced information about characteristics of chemical accidents, about prevention of major chemical accidents including analyses and evaluation of risks with a focus on organizational-safety and technical-safety measures in the area of chemical safety. The students obtain through lectures advanced knowledge concerning prevention of major chemical accidents at all main branches according to the valid legislation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is not compulsory, but is recommended. Attendance at seminars is compulsory.
Controls of teaching in combination study perform at laest three compulsory consultations during the term.
Controls of teaching in attendance study realize through discussion forum at lectures, after ending the block of lectures.
