The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Also dealt with is ESP. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at B1 level (intermediate).

Prerequisites

Course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at pre-intermediate level. It is a follow-up to the course AJ1B, successful completion of which is a necessary prerequisite for the course AJ2B.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course it taught by means of language lessons focused on practicing language skills and developing vocabulary. It includes also individual work of students in the elearning environment.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively and worked out assigned tasks. Final evaluation covers the student’s work in the exercises and the knowledge tested by the examination. The examination consists of a written and oral part. The exam corresponds to the B1 level according to the Common European Framework and tests the grammar and lexical structures covered in the course (grammar, vocabulary, fonetics). The exam has one regular term and one resit. For second resit see Dean's Directive 3/2014.

2. U6 Using innovation. Work skills - Presentations 2: structuring a talk. Functions - Describing problems and finding solutions
3. U7 Work styles and careers. Grammar - Zero, 1st, and 2nd Conditional. Vocabulary - Money and finance
4. U7 Work styles and careers. Work skills - Emails 2: job applications. Functions - Discussing and reaching agreement
5. U8 Processes. Grammar - Passives: Present Simple, Present Continuous, Present Perfect Simple, Past Simple, will. Vocabulary - Product journey
6. U8 Processes. Work skills - Time management. Functions - Checking understanding and clarifying
7. Revision U6-U8
8. U9 The business of sport. Grammar - Relative clauses. Vocabulary - Describing personal qualities at work
9. U9 The business of sport. Work skills - Job interviews. Functions - Changing plans
10. U10 Great partnerships. Grammar - 3rd Conditional; should / shouldn’t have. Vocabulary - Changing careers; /ing vs infinitive
11. U10 Great partnerships. Work skills - Teleconferencing and videoconferencing. Functions - Catching up
12. Revision U9-U10
13. Final revision.

Aims

The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Students learn basic grammar and lexical structures at B1 level (intermediate) necessary for everyday communication.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Students’ participation is compulsory and their work is systematically controlled. Regular attendance, active participation in lessons and working out of all assigned tasks (incl. elearning Revisions) are required. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.
