Clinical physiology

Clinical exploitation of knowledge of biology of man. Evaluation of functionality of organs and systems, diagnostic methods. The use and limitations particular diagnostic methods, perspectives of their improvement. Residency of small student groups on hospital wards, introduction of diagnostic methods.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Basic review on functionality of human body. The course is adapted to technicians with limited knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The technician will learn basic requirements on diagnostic medical devices.

Prerequisites

The subject knowledge on the Bachelor´s degree level is requested.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Techning methods include lectures, practical laboratories and educational excursion. Course is taking advantage of e-learning (Moodle) system. Students have to write assignment from each laboratory.

Aims

The aim is to introduce basic functions of the organism, most used diagnostic methods in medicine, and their limitations.

Blood, functionality, pathological changes of cardiovascular circulation. Functional anatomy of heart and arteries.
Invasive and noninvasive cardiology. Diagnostic methods.
Overview of most common diseases, patophysiology and clinical outcome.
Diagnostic methods in cardiology, right-handed and left-handed catetherization, coronography, Dopler ultrasonography, advanced diagnostic methods.
Functional anatomy of windpipes and lungs, physiology of breathing.
Devices for functional diagnostics of lungs. Overview of lung diseases.
Disorders of acidobasic balance.
Functionality of kidneys, basic diagnostic methods, kidney insufficiency, dialysis.
Functional anatomy of digestion tract, physiology of digestion.
Basic symptoms of stomach and gut diseases. Basic diagnostic methods.
Basic functions and disorders of nervous system. Diagnostic methods in neurology.
