Company Management I

The course is structured to inform the students with basic principles of management and with approach to management in successful companies. The course also introduce the students with modern methods of company management. Entrepreneurship, business entities. Management processes. Decision-making process.
The course focuses especially on the following topics: Knowledge of principles, goals and structuralization of management, management application on corporate level. Requirements laid on managers, his expected qualities and role. Management system at the company Bata. Structuralization of management according to the functions and elements. Detailed explanation of individual elements. Planning, organization. Typology of organizational structures. Applicable business units.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will have a clear idea of modern approach to and application of management including development connections and individual planning procedures, creating of organizing conditions and organizational structures, including possibility of choice of business unit.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of courses Corporate Economics, functions of company, its economics and results.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions for awarding the course-unit credit:
1. Active participation in exercises during presentations followed by discussion over seminar work
2. Successful completion of a credit
3. Successful elaboration of semester work in preset deadline.

Total number of points is 100; the minimal number of points for awarding the course-unit credit is 70.

Students have an opportunity to acquire points for:
- individual semester work
- team semester project
- elaboration of tasks related to the studies
- elaboration of partial tasks
- control test

Students will be penalized by negative points for:
- late submission of individual semester project (i.e. within 6th and 10th week of the semester)
- late submission of team project – after 5th week of the semester
- late delivery of individual resp. team project (after 10th week of the semester)
- late delivery of resit – supplementary individual project – term is set by the seminar teacher.

If the student does not acquire sufficient number of points, there are set up to 3 following supplementary – resit means for the course-unit credit acquirement:
- up to three supplementary – resit tests
- supplementary – resit individual project
- supplementary – resit team project
Note: these ways of resit can be accepted provided that student have already tried to acquire points at least in one individual semester project!

Conditions for passing an exam: Knowledge of taught topics and their practical application.
Form of examination: Oral – presentation of acquired knowledge and own opinions expressed in the seminar work, knowledge of taught topics, knowledge of textbooks and recommended literature. The exam is sat by three students at the time. The course-unit credit awarding is a necessary condition for passing an exam.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and methodology regarding fundamentals of management, its terms, content, structuralization and practical application. To recommend approaches necessary for solution of managerial tasks on corporate level.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

An introductory course intended to provide a basic knowledge of management, its methods, structure and intent. The aim of this course is recommended to students the approaches for solving the managerial task.
Active participation in seminars regarding presented topics, participation in discussion, quality
Presentation of semester work on given topic, knowledge test.

In case of excused absence from seminars, the teacher can set additional condition if appropriate, usually elaboration of partial written task.
