Course detail

Process Equipment Construction

FSI-9SPZAcad. year: 2014/2015

The course is devoted to aging/lifetime management of process equipment during operating. Material aging/lifetime management system and the process of material damage are explained. Mathematical models of the most frequent damage mechanisms such as fatigue, creep and corrosion are presented. Processes of growth of allowed defects found during nondestructive control and methods of assessment of process equipment material resistance against brittle fracture are explained further. Methods of process equipment damage scenario creation and choosing independent variables including their statistical distribution when calculating failure probability pf and risk of process equipment accident are represented.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student will know that process equipment material damage while operating can be influenced and will learn the ways to influence it. The student will understand that only using mathematical description of material damage based on the experiments the degree of material damage and residual lifetime can be found. The students will learn that methods available now are to be constantly developed. They will be introduced to the scope and type of input data for the calculations and purposefulness of their statistical distribution knowledge. The students will know the difference between deterministic way of analysis and probabilistic analysis of accident occurrence.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge from elasticity and strength of structures, mechanics and theory of materials.
