Banking System

The course focuses on the following topics: Explanation of different types of banks, functions of banking sector, banking operation types, payment instruments, bank products, bank marketing, use of financial mathematics in banking, crediting, management of bank liquidity, assets and liabilities management including risk management.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will gain knowledge of the banking sector functioning, different types of banks, possibilities of usage of the banking products in practice, payment instruments and banking services usage, risk elimination. They will learn to respect the "time value of money" principle when choosing a suitable banking product.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course is concluded by credit in the form a written test, graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale. Working out three financial mathematics exercises on at least 67% is a condition for evaluating the test.

4. Payment instruments I. - cheque, bill of exchange.
5. Payment instruments I. - documentary.
6. Domestic and international noncash payment system.
7. Bank sources, deposit business.
8. Credit business.
9. Assurance and management of credit risks.
10. Financial-credit business of banks.
11. Internal bank economy, management of assets and debts.
12. Mortgage and consumer credit.
13. Financing of developer projects.

Aims

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the necessary knowledge of basic functions of the banking sector, types of banks and the way of their entrepreneurship. Also to deal with the basic rules of active and passive transactions of banks with clients, international business financing, domestic and foreign system of payment, cash transactions, using the payment instruments, information systems and providing the banking services. It also shows students into bank marketing, business ethics, management of changes in the bank, liquidity management and internal economics of the bank, banking transactions at bank's own account, exchange transactions, transactions with receivables and stock and bonds, banking risk management. Students will have a grasp of interest rates, returns, present and future values, the way of their functioning and impact on entrepreneurial activities.
