Water management systems control

Basic characters of water management systems, principle of construction and operation of water management dispatchinks, general control model and regulating circuit, in-line control, on-line control and off-line control, dynamic properties of water management systems, control in real time and operative control of water management structures, collecting, transmission and data processing, construction of controlling algorithms of supply and protection function of water management systems and their operation, remote setting of regulating valves, water management systems control during accidents on water courses (escape of pollutants)

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The basic model of control and its modifications
The term control of water management system in real-time (operative management)
Dynamic properties of the water system
Water management dispatching structure, collection, transmission and processing of data, examples from practice
The control algorithms for the operative control of water supply
The control algorithms for the operative control of the protective function of the water management system
The use of artificial intelligence to the control of river basin runoff

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, hydraulics and hydrology

Co-requisites

Reservoirs and water management systems, operational and systems analysis, operational research, applied hydrology, operative hydrology, artificial intelligence methods

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
Students pass the 13 basic lectures in reservoirs and water management systems operative control.
In practice, students process according to entering some basic task using computers and software available.
At the end of course test draw from the full range of lectures and pass the oral exam.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Attendance to seminars, submission of reports to practice, written test, oral exam.

Basic knowledge dealing with control of water runoff from the river basin with the help of water management systems
Ability to set up models of operative control of supply function of water management system
Ability to set up models of operative control of water management system protection function
