Learning outcomes of the course unit

During the course the students learn to use theoretical knowledge obtained in previous ages for solution of more complicated geotechnical problems. The students will be able to solve complex geotechnical tasks including analysis of the problem, educational literature and standards, making of geotechnical profile, input geotechnical data, computation model, analysis of results.

Prerequisites

Soil properties, limit states theory, basic principles of structural mechanics, elasticity and strength theories, knowledge of an assessment of building structures, foundation engineering, underground structures, geotechnical computation programmes.

Co-requisites

Risks at foundation of objects, risks at implementing of deep foundation pits shoring, new technologies of special foundation methods, environmental geotechnics, computational methods in geotechnical engineering.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The specified topic is practiced by the diploma project, including parts individually discussed. Part of the exercise takes place in a classroom PC - application software for the solution of the problem. Work on the project is performed individually. Diploma project is closed by oral presentations.
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Conditions of credit is to develope a complex graduate project and satisfying attendance.
