Learning outcomes of the course unit

Knowledge and skills in the field of the design of members, components and connections of load-carrying steel, steel-concrete and timber structures. Static behaviour of load-carrying systems of civil engineering structures. Connections between static design and structural detailing. Elaboration of static and structural design of steel, steel-concrete or timber structure according to the given disposition.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the design of members, components and connections of metal and timber structures. Principles of structural mechanics, elasticity, strength and plasticity, which necessary for the complex design of steel, steel-concrete or timber structure. Basic principles of structural dynamics.

Co-requisites

Extension of knowledge of structural mechanics, elasticity, strength and plasticity. Extension of the knowledge in the field of the civil structure modelling. Extension of the knowledge of structural dynamics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at practical classes is compulsory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

For the successful graduation of this course it is necessary to elaborate the complex static and structural design of steel, steel-concrete or timber structure according to the given disposition.

Syllabus

1. Project task.
2.-4. Geometry and composition of a structure, variants of the structural and static solution, preliminary static design.
4.-9. Work on the project: modelling, static solution, dimensioning. Consultation with Diploma´s thesis supervisor.
10.-11. Work on the project: structural detailing, drawing documentation. Consultation with Diploma´s thesis supervisor.
12. Completion of the project.
13. Presentation of the project.
