General overview through the history of architecture and the development of building constructions and city building with a view to architectural cultures of Bohemian countries. Architectural styles, architectonic features, typical building constructions and materials terminology from the history of architecture and civil engineering.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Acquirement of overview of the development of architecture, constructions and building technologies since the prehistory until today. Acquirement of ability to classify object by its characteristics to style period and ability to use a professional nomenclature.

Prerequisites

General knowledge of history at secondary school level.

Co-requisites

This is a separate subject therefore there is no need for simultaneous obtaining any additional knowledge.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Education takes place in form of lectures and presentations.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Student individually draw up semestral work about architectural styles discussed in the course in the examples of architectural monuments in Brno and work out a written credit test.

11. Art Nouveau, Czech Cubist architecture, modern architecture
12. Architecture of interwar period

Acquirement directory information about the development of architecture, constructions and building technologies since the Antiquity until today. Acquirement of ability to classify object by its characteristics to style period and ability to use a professional nomenclature.
