Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students put together a business plan of building supply company. Students propose the company by themselves. The company business is focused on the works carried out on the building object that they themselves proposed in a previous study of the project aimed at building construction. A substantial part of the project is to estimate a prices of complete building object and subcontract. Use of the latest software for budgeting and cost estimating is compulsory. Students must set the price of construction works to correspond to corporate finance and marketing in the region. The success or failure of a business plan is demonstrate by cost controlling. The result of the project is also to validate the skills in team work. Teams consist usually of three students.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of price setting problems and costing in civil engineering. Orientation in coding and classification of construction production. Required are skills of user ability to work with cost estimation data and with software applications for cost estimation and costing in con-struction development.

Co-requisites

Cost estiamating of building objects, calculation of building works, financing in building company, marketing in building industry, cost controlling in building industry.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical classes and self-study assignments. Attendance at practical classes is compulsory.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course is closed with the presentation of the business plan before the evaluation committee. Each part of the project is individually evaluated by relevant teacher. The project is evaluated by classified credit. The final grade is comprehensive and reflects the classification of all project components.
