Spanish Upper-Intermediate

This course focuses on the following: Describing cities and live in them, praising and highlighting something, expressing indifference or anger. Talking about habits and vices, detailed description of people. Expressing opinion in public (internet forum). For expressing these ideas the student uses prepositional phrases, relative and time clauses. Clauses of cause and effect: Vocabulary is widened in the field of safety in general, university life, personality features and health.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The student is able to understand key ideas of texts that are fairly complex and deal with concrete and abstract ideas even though they are technical or otherwise specific provided that the student is acquainted with the topic. In presence of native speakers the student is able to communicate without major barrier for him or his/her listener. At this level the student is able to talk in detail about general topics and express agreement or disagreement fluently. Is able to follow a conversation among native speakers provided that the topics in questions are familiar. The student is able to take part in a conference or symposium when the topic is familiar. The students has no major barriers understanding the news on TV. Is able to watch Spanish spoken films and understand the key story lines unless the topic is very specific and unfamiliar. The student is able to follow a phone conversation, is able to read modern literature (fiction) and is able to write an essay on a given topic and write a letter where he can express more abstract ideas and links among them. The student is able to give detailed explanation about his/her life, work and family. Level acquired B2 – according to EFR (European Frame of Reference)

Students should have knowledge that corresponds to the level of the previous course BYS32.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Grammar, vocabulary is practised in an interactive way, with emphasis on conversation and cultural backgroung of Spanish speaking countries.The so called Talleres where students work in the form of projects in small groups. Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students attend classes regularly and actively participate in class (no more than 3 absences). If the student has more than 3 absences during the semester, then an end-of-course test must be taken. The above mentioned is valid unless otherwise specified by the tutor.

The aim of this course is to teach the Spanish language and the basic communicative skills that are necessary to achieve the level B1 inferior.
