Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will have knowledge of the up-to-date terminology of manufacturing, handling and specifications of fresh concrete. They will acquire understanding of different types of formworks and formwork systems as the basic prerequisite for selection of the optimal type of formwork during construction and reconstruction works. The students will be capable of carrying out a technical and economic analysis of the budgetary process for formworks choosing the most cost-effective formworks rental. Students will acquire knowledge about the manufacturing processes of reinforced concrete structures focusing on points such as formwork, reinforcing and concrete works. Students learn about specific concrete work steps when performing concrete work under non-ordinary circumstances.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of statics in concrete works, structural mechanics and property testing in fresh concrete structures.

Co-requisites

Time analysis and optimization of the work progression, computer support for the preparation and implementation of construction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The basic teaching methods are: lectures with the explanation of basic principles, methodology, problems and their solutions in the form of presentations with demonstrations emphasizing critical points. Follow-up seminars focus on practical use of the knowledge acquired during lectures. It consists of individual projects under the guidance of the tutor.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

In order to successfully complete the course, students must pass the final exam. The basic prerequisite for credit is active participation during seminars, i.e. regular attendance with no more than 1 absence and fulfilment of the tasks assigned individually. The required tasks are budget analysis for formworks for a given structure, technological regulations of monolithic structures, design of formworks using software tools.

Course curriculum

1. Terminology, production and handling procedures, characteristic features of a fresh concrete
2. Casing, technology procedures.
3. Reinforcement, casting of concrete mixture into the casing, compacting.
4. Massive structures, concreting under special conditions, quality inspection.
5. Assembled structures, assembly procedures, fixing, quality inspection.
6. Manners of instating and reconstructions of concrete structures, diagnostics.
7. Surface types of concrete structures and manners of their instating.
8. Static instating.

Work placements

Not applicable.

Aims

To make the students acquainted with technology of concrete, reinforced concrete structures and application of reinforced concrete elements in the assembled structures, their reconstructions and reinstating.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Extent and forms are specified by guarantor’s regulation updated for every academic year.

Recommended optional programme components

Non-compulsory attendance to optional seminars related to the course, the option to attend related courses in the life-long learning programme, cooperation in building preparation projects.
