Computer Aided Technology

FSI-HPTAcad. year: 2015/2016

The course “Computer-Aided Technology” acquaints students with mostly exploited regions of computer support in technology. The basic part of the subject is the work with simulation software using the Finite Element Method, problems of drawing with COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN systems, and mastering the fundamentals of using software in direct support of technologist’s work. Mastering the work with the above-mentioned software enables assessing the forming forces, localizing places with defects, assessing flow of material determining the temperatures in the course of the forming process and other data necessary to determine optimum technology for required part. In the area of heat treatment of material the simulation results can be used to determine the strength of formed material and its structure, and thereby to verify the usefulness of technological operation. Working with computation software and CAD will show how to rationalize the solution of technological problems.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will acquire practical experience in simulation in a field of shaping and foundry, material heat treatment and their plotting. In a field of software by CAD drawing in 2D mode they will master basic procedures by a component parts design creation. In a passage of working with software for a technological groundwork determination they will master a working manner, which will multiply the speed of technologist’s work.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of engineering technology and computer literacy.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended all seminars and worked out partial tasks. Examination consists of a written, practical and an oral part.

Aims

The goal of a training is to acquire a view of possibilities of computer support utilisation in technology and to acquire bases of a working manner in particular areas of this subject. The students will have a view of what they can expect from computer support results in practice. They will learn to set data correctly for a possible cooperation with experts in a computer science field by solving of cases where the cooperation is necessary.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance is required and checked by the teacher. If this condition is not satisfied, the teacher may in justified cases set a make-up condition.
