Course detail

Construction of Process Equipment I.

FSI-KKPAcad. year: 2015/2016

The course is concerned with the basics of process equipment construction, above all with pressure vessels, equipments, reactors, tanks and pipe systems.
Students are informed about basic structure nodes, ways of manufacture and assembly. A special attention is paid to unified standards of the European Union concerning process equipment construction, cost optimization and marketing aspects of manufacture. Safetz and reliabilitz of designed equipments from the poin of view of the protection of the environment represents an important part of the course.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will learn how to construct simpler process equipment. They will be made familiar with European Union standards for ecological operational safety of process equipment.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of elasticity and strength of structures, mechanics, theory of materials and details of machines.

Co-requisites

Not applicable.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements: Active attendance at seminars is checked. The exam has written and oral parts, students have to prove their evident theoretical and practical knowledge.

Not applicable.

Aims

The course objective is to make students familiar with problems of pressure vessels and storage tanks design so that they could apply them. Students will learn to perceive differences of process equipment sructures from common structures regarding their higher safety requirements.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Active attendance at seminars is checked. The written report has to be done when training was missed. This report has to be produced for verification.
