Lectures are focused on explanation of basic operations (cell disruption, protein precipitation, exctraction, large-scale chromatography) used in isolation and purification of biologically active compounds (proteins, nucleic acids) from microorganisms.

The course uses teaching methods in form of Lecture - 2 teaching hours per week, seminars - 1 teaching hour per week. The e-learning system (LMS Moodle) is available to teachers and students.

1. Stechiometry of microbial growth and material balances.
2. Systems with immobilized cells and enzymes.
3. Enzymatic catalysis in anhydrous and quasi anhydrous solvents.
4. Properties of fluids.
5. Mechanical, chemical and enzymatic cell disruption.
6. Precipitation and salting-out odf proteins.
7. Filtration. Centrifugation.
8. Extraction.
9. Extraction using aqueous two-phase systems.
10. Types of extractors and their design.
11. Large scale chromatographic techniques.
12. Drying. Freeze-drying. Protein stability.
13. Validation of production quality.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at lectures is not obligatory but it is recommended. At seminars the calculations of model examples are given - attendance is obligatory.
