Safety and Protection Management

Management as a prerequisite for functioning of any structure. The role and place of management in organisation management. The principles of managerial decision-making, problem (and situation) analysis, methods, forms. Mutual dependences and connections of management activities. Basic theoretical and professional knowledge of the safety and protection management. Problems of risks and their influence on the contingency of technological break-downs. The principles of risk management and managerial workers activity.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

After completion of the course, students will have the fundamental knowledge in the field of safety and protection management. They will be able to think in the intentions of the presented terms, principles and categories of safety and protection. They will be able to understand better and partly know the basics of the safety and protection management.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching is carried out through lectures and seminars. Lectures consist of interpretations of basic principles, methodology of given discipline, problems and their exemplary solutions. Seminars particularly support practical mastery of subject matter presented in lectures or assigned for individual study with the active participation of students.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The knowledge and skills will be further practised and tested in the seminar; and in accordance with the seminar work on given topic.

Course curriculum

1. Introduction and specification of the subject, its place and role, systematic understanding of problems, the importance of cybernetics.
2. Interpretation of management, its basic functions (planning, organisation, managing, control), managerial competences.
3. Information and its role in the managerial processes, psychology in management, communication.
4. Managerial decision-making – basic terms, problems and procedures.
5. Managerial decision-making – selected basic methods.
6. Risk management. The place and role of safety and protection management.
7. Safety problems, their analysis and influence on the existence and management of organisational structures.
8. Possibilities in the risk management – their categorisation, recognizing, analysis, deciding its solution.
9. Methods of risk management.
10. Organisation of the protection of personnel, technological units, property and the environment, its principles, elements and processes.
11. Provision of operation, fire protection, organisation of work safety.
12. Crisis management and planning – the objective and basic concepts.
13. Crisis and break-down plans – content, development and their usage.

Aims

The objectives of the subject “Safety and protection management” are to inform students about the basics of general management and especially the safety and protection management, about the methods of decision-making, and to enable their further development in the field of crisis management. To show students the necessity of safety and protection management and its importance for the society.
